Abdomen is flattened by removing excess overhanging skin and fat and tightening the muscle of the abdominal wall. Often done along with gynecology surgery (hysterectomy, bladder surgery).
Incision is made from hip to hip (in bikini line). Excess skin and underlying fat is removed. The muscles are tightened. Sutures are placed under the skin and dissolve. Two drains and an ON-Q pain pump are used.
Hospital or Surgery Center
Minimal, controlled well with oral medication and use of ON-Q pain pump.
Abdominal binder is worn for 4-6 weeks, dressing change/wound care three times a day for 7 days. Drains are measured and emptied twice daily. Drains are removed in 1-2 weeks after surgery.
No lifting, pushing, or pulling for 4-6 weeks then gradually increase to normal activity. Return to work in 14 days.
